That something else is ‘the testing of your faith’ (v. 3) and the results it brings. I am not convinced that this way of putting it is the most helpful (nor in verse 12 where it appears as ‘when he has stood the test’), even though it also appears in Genesis 22 where we are told that God tested Abraham (v. 1).
